Is increasing your vertical leap one of your goals? This is an important aspect of any athletes game, and most are looking to improve it. Jumping is a critical factor in quite a few sports. It’s obviously very important in basketball, but also in sprinting, football and volleyball. Your game could be improved by the skills required to jump, regardless if you think jumping is necessary in your sport or not.
You should take into account trying out a different sport other than you main sport that makes you jump. As an illustration, if you play basketball, try out your skills at volleyball or track. This will oblige you to put your body to use in ways that you are not used to. If you only participate in one activity, it is common for you to move the same directions every time. Testing out another sport will let your body learn new moves that you’ll be able to use in your #1 sport. When you think about jumping, you will become aware that different types of activities require you to jump using varied methods. By getting some variety, your body will obtain new abilities and you’ll have an up in comparison to the others who play only one sport.

If you are looking to improve your vertical jump, try to avoid the common mistake many athletes make of over training. While too much training can lead to injury or burnout, you also don’t want to over train. Resting at least two days maybe three is vital then. Your workouts will see more benefit with this rest time for your muscles to rebuild and recuperate. No rest time causes injury which in the end could force you to take a very long break. By allowing your body to rest you will see better results, which people who are anxious for results often ignore this fact and over train.

As with all exercise you need to be sure you are doing stretches before and after to avoid muscle strain. The last thing you want is an injury, as this could set back your training for weeks or even longer. Your vertical leap will be greatly influenced by the stretching you do before hand as well as decreasing your likelihood of injury. It’s especially important to stretch your legs for agility and flexibility through the routine you put them through.

Of course, if you want to get better at vertical leap you also need to practice jumping, besides training for your main sport. Age and athletic ability are of no matter because everyone can make noteworthy improvements in this area if they pay attention to it. You have to train hard, but also be patient with yourself.
Whether you play basketball, football, volleyball, or any other sport, being able to jump higher than your opponents gives you a tremendous advantage. I am going to give you 5 tips on ways to jump higher so you can start performing at a higher level and reap the rewards of a high vertical.

1. Properly Warm Up Before any Sort of Physical Activity – Not only does this reduce your risk for injury which could set you back months in your progress, but it’s been proven that your muscles work and fire much better when they are properly warmed up.

If you went out onto a basketball court for example and just started playing without warming up, your performance would suffer. You wouldn’t be as fast, you wouldn’t jump as high as you normally could, and you may hurt yourself. I recommend doing a 5 minute jog or ride an exercise bike to get your muscles warmed up and your heart rate slightly elevated before you jump into a workout or a game.

2. Always Stretch Out Before Physical Activity – Just like warming up, this is another area that a lot of people neglect and it can have a really negative effect on your progress. A properly stretched muscle will contract and fire more powerful and explosive than a tight muscle. Plus you reduce your risk for injury. A lot of people looking for ways to jump higher will notice that after a proper warmup and stretch routine, their vertical will increase.

Want to know how to jump higher? Jumping is a crucial and critical part of many sports, especially basketball. Being able to jump higher makes you a much better player. Many athletes make the incorrect assumption that how high you can jump depends entirely on your height. Does this mean that if you are short player you aren’t able to jump high? Definitely no! While height does play an important role, it is not the only factor that determines how high you can jump. You are about to discover just what parts of your body play a major role in determining how high you can jump and what you can do to improve them so you can start jumping higher sooner.

Just how high you can jump depends on a select few muscles in your body. Do you know what they are? The muscles in your legs, abs and glutes play the major role in determining how high you can jump. If these muscles are weak, then this will impact directly on just how high you can jump. Focus on working and improving these areas to see immediate results in how high you can jump. Be sure to give these muscles thorough workouts by doing several different kinds of exercises, such as running, sprinting and jump roping to just name a few. Squats are a great way to strengthen your ads to boost your vertical jump. The more training you put yourself through to improve these areas the higher you will be able to jump.

Just why are these areas so important to your vertical height when you jump? The reason is because they provide you with strength and power that is required to push and propel your body upwards. If these muscles are weak or unconditioned, then you aren’t harnessing the full power and won’t have access to the vertical height your body is potentially capable of. Only by conditioning and constantly focusing on improving these areas will you ever be able to attain the ability to jump higher.

Focus on basic squats and jumps with weights. This will also improve your muscle mass in these areas. If you are worried about gaining too much bulk, don’t worry. A good vertical jump training program will outline the exercises that are best for you and suit your needs, regardless of the sport you play. The important thing is that you know the areas that affect how high you can jump and that you devote enough time and energy to improving these areas if you want to see real results.

Being able to jump high can make the difference between winning and losing a game. Are you sick and tired of not having the kind of vertical jump you’d like? You don’t have to be tall to have a good vertical jump. Height is important but it is not the only factor in jumping high. Now that you know the areas of your body which are responsible for just how high you can jump, focus as much time and energy as you possibly can to conditioning and strengthening these areas. You’ll be glad you did once you see just how much more vertical jump you’ll get.

is such an important part of a well rounded training regime, yet so many players completely ignore it. Any player who wants to reach their maximum potential, and become a dominant force on the ice, absolutely has to embrace dry land training. Here are some tips on what to do off-ice to ensure you dominate on-ice.

1) Cardio/endurance training – Intervals are your friend.

Off-ice is the perfect place to work on your conditioning and the best way to do that is to tailor your cardio workouts to directly benefit your on-ice game. Working interval training into your cardio is one amazing way to do this. In hockey, you hit the ice for a quick shift at maximum capacity, then go back to the bench to rest up for a couple of minutes. You should structure your cardio the same way. Intervals of 1 minute at high capacity and 2 at low capacity will have great effects.

            google_ad_channel = “7940249670, ” + AB_cat_channel + AB_unit_channel;
google_language = “en”;
google_ad_region = ‘test’;

Training off-ice with specific focus on gains that will translate to on-ice performance is of the utmost important for players of all ages. Developing speed, power and skill are something every player should actively pursue, and there is a lot more time in the day to train off-ice than there is on-ice.

Go to www.tophockeytraining.com and check out Hockey Speed and Power by ex-NHL player and career pro Kevin Miehm. Kevin has trained Stanley Cup winners and ex-Olympians, and has written this manual to provide a complete hockey training program designed to help players reach the top of their game.

One of the main things that influences speed is muscle fibre type, type II fast-twitch muscle fibres in particular. This is the type that you’ll prodominantly find in fast, explosive fighters. Boxers who have goo reactive strength will excel at plyometric base drills because their nervous system and structure is tuned in to produce force quickly. We should distinguish between the raw speed that some fighters are born with and the timing and reading of their opponent that some develop over tim – which makes them look quick. Speed of punch is certainly something you can certainly train. If not, nobody would ever get any better. You can always make a quality better.

Different methods of training can help the fighters who aren’t naturally so fast to imporve their speed, but this isn’t a quick fix. It’s something that’ll be a 6-18 month project demanding on the stimulus.
Primarily, plyometric exercises – anything where you have to create a lot of force in a short space of time – are important in developing speed. Reactive bodyweight squat jumps and med ball throws are all good examples.

You need to work on eccentric strength (muscle Lengthening). Jump from a 20cm box onto the ground and the up onto a 50cm high box.f you can decrease the length of time you spend on the ground, this would demonstrate a development of reactive strength. You build from the ground up. Most guys who have quick hand speed will often also have quick feet. Without quick feet, you won’t be able to use hand speed effectively. Fast guys will be light on their feet and display good movement patterns, and be able to get into and out of range quickly. Andre Dirrel is a good example – very elusive, both in terms of feet and upper body movement, and lightning hand speed.

Visual reaction exercises are also important in developing functional speed. The plyometric exercises will help your muscles become more explosive, but the visual reaction exercises sharpen the application of speedmand use it to your best advantage. Partner drills are also useful, such as the shoulder touch game. Another game is where you put pegs all over the t-shirt of one of the fighters and you have to get the clothes pegs off him. Think of it like a car being developed in the garage – that’s the plyometric work – but then being refined on the testing track – thats the visual reaction work.

You could argue that a faster puncher may have less puch power than a slower, stronger fighter, but that isn’t the case. Pacquiao, for instance, has excellent hand speed and powerful punches. Mayweathercan whack a bit too. The guys at the top level have got it all. Great speed isn’t automatically at the expense of other qualities. Quality fighters will have a good base of training so they have a braod spectrum of qualities. The really good guys have a mix of everything. If you’re just quick with no power, sooner or later you’ll be pinned to the ropes and found out.

Even if it is jumping, it also needs basic exercises for you to be able to improve this ability. Athletes and dancers focuses on jumping higher as it is necessary for their chosen field. To be able to know how to jump higher, you should know the basics as well as the basic exercises that can help you get started. Below are the most recommended basic exercises and some simple tips when you are training on how to jump higher:

Jumping – this does not really require a lot of skills or any special skills on how to jump higher. All you need to do is to jump 5 times and record the highest and the lowest jumps you were able to make.

Leg Exercises – jump rope, jogging, and toe raises are 3 of the leg exercises that are relatively important in your training on how to jump higher.

Jump Rope – 10 to 30 minutes daily routine for 4 to 5 days per week will be able to develop your ability and agility to jump higher.

Jogging – 20 to 30 minutes per day at least 4 to 5 days per week can help you with your cardiovascular improvement. Gain better results by jogging in the sea sand due to sand resistance involved.

Toe Raises – do it anywhere with a firm ground for execution. Stand firmly on the ground and then raise your toes up and down the pavement for 10 repetitions in 3 sets. Do this regularly to put some strength on the ankle and lower leg.

Goal Setting – jumping is such a developmental ability that setting a goal to maximize your training and performance is essential. When thinking of a goal for doing this, do not go for things such as winning a competition or jumping to a certain height but rather, set a more technical goal for yourself and your ability.

Motivation is the key to success in whatever goal you have. Why do I jump? How do I jump higher? These are usually the basic questions that come to mind while training your ability in jumping. To motivate yourself, go for the intrinsic drive or get motivated from the inside. Consider the factors such as the love, the passion, and the desire to improve on your ability rather than the extrinsic motivator such as prestige, outcome, rewards, money or scholarship. Assess yourself and explore for you to be able to enhance your inner drive thus enhancing your performance.

The Two Most Important Variables of An Effective Jump Program

I hope you are familiar with the two principal variables of a : strength and quickness. That’s what’s going to make you explode. I’ll give you an example.

Let’s say you were a sprinter, and you ran the hundred meter dash, would you train sprinting by running the mile or by running two miles? No, because that would train your endurance. It’s a completely different type of muscle, and that’s not the muscle you want to be training. And as long as you continue to train your jumping endurance, you are not going to maximize your jumping potential.

To jump higher, you want to train your explosion. All of the exercises that are recommended for people who wish to jump higher are called “explosion exercises.” They’re all vertical jump exercises that are going to teach you to push you’re your potential more and more.

For instance, if you can jump eighteen inches right now, and if your training teaches you to jump a little higher each time, then you’re going to be increasing that level almost each workout. Each week, you’re going to see slight increases, and that’s going to build up until a point where you’re going to be warmed up, or you’ll just have played a game, and you’ll realize now you can jump higher than you ever have been able to before.
